Heading to Cape Cod Wednesday, September 8, 2021 with Paul, Diane, and Jay (the husband, my sister, and her boyfriend). Paul and I have been several times. This is Diane and Jay's first time. LobsterVille here we come.
My laptop is fussy so I'll update according to its mood when I'm online.

9, 2021, Happy Birthday to me!
Good morning from my
patio in Cape Cod. Its 73* with a slight
breeze at 6 a.m. local time. My favorite whether!
Yesterday was an
easy but long travel day. We had to
connect through Chicago. Both flights
were right on time. We had a long walk between
gates in Chicago but arrived at the gate 4 minutes prior to boarding. Airline food is at its worst ever, even in
first class. On our first flight (3.5
hrs) they had turkey or vegetarian on croissant. By the time they got me in “row three” they
were out of turkey. The vegetarian had
egg salad and a slice of Swiss cheese. I
scrapped off the egg salad and had two bites of stale, dry croissant. It also had a little bowl of oatmeal but it
had coconut in it and I’m allergic. The
grapes in the fruit cup were good. So
basically I had grapes for breakfast. On
the second flight (2.5 hrs) they brought around a basket of snacks. As Diane said “I had Styrofoam and she had
cardboard”. I had mini caramel rice
cakes. I don’t remember what she had but
I had a bite and it did resemble cardboard.
Anyhow, our luggage came down fairly quickly and we headed to the car rental building which had a long line. We took one look at our SUV and knew our luggage wouldn’t fit. It was a very small Mitsubishi. Jay thought we could put some bags inside but Diane told him she put his brief case on the floor in the front seat and now there is no room for her feet. Jay went back in and luckily they had a Tahoe available. Everything fit with room to spare. NOW we can be on our way. Traffic was heavy getting out of Boston but smooth sailing once we got closer to the Cape. We arrived at the resort at 6:30 p.m. As you can imagine we were extremely hungry. Paul had scoped out some restaurants so we didn’t have to spend time researching. We took a short drive to Skipper Chowder House. The hostess said it would be an hour wait. We walked across the street to the beach for about 15 minutes.
We don’t have a plan
for today except Birthday Dinner at my favorite restaurant. It’s supposed to rain all day.
Paul slept in a little so Diane, Jay and I went for a walk in the rain down to the beach. When we got back we went out to explore for a little while he was getting ready. We drove down to the marina and around the area.
We went back and picked up Paul and went to late breakfast/early lunch at the Keltic Kitchen. It was very good. Diane and I split a Patty Melt and an order of Apple, Bacon, Cheddar Potato Pancakes.
Not as good as the Spice Girls Travel Club Potato Pancakes!! |
Paul got Corned Beef Hash Benedict and Jay got Corned Beef Hash and Eggs.
Paul took a few bites and the server came over with another plate for him. She accidently had given him the Benedict with Ham instead of CBH (which surprisingly he hadn’t noticed). Needless to say he had lots of leftovers. We made a couple of stops and then Paul went back to the room and we drove down the road to an Antique Shop we saw earlier along the way. They had tons of stuff, all very pricy, nothing we couldn’t live without. Back to the resort for a while and then Jay, Diane and I ventured out in the rain to find Somerset Creamery for Cranberry Bog Ice Cream which I had seen on the Food Network. We thought it was a 30 minute drive but it ended up being closer to an hour. Diane and I got Cranberry Bog and Jay got Butter Pecan.
It was good but I'm not sure it was worth the 'three hour tour'. |
Lounging on the beach in the rain |
We decided not to go to my favorite restaurant tonight. We’ll venture out around 7 or so and find somewhere closer. The restaurant I want to go to is about an hour drive so when we go we’ll go a little earlier and knock around Falmouth.
We ended up at the Lobster Boat. I had fried lobster (fried seafood is a thing here), Paul had a whole lobster baked and stuffed, Diane had crab cakes, Jay had the fisherman’s platter.
It rained ALL DAY
just as the weather app predicted.
Friday September 10, 2021
It’s 72* on my
patio. It’s supposed to be sunny most of
the day.
Beautiful view from our patio of Mr. Sunshine breaking through |
I can’t get my
photos from my camera to download. The pictures I’ve posted are from our
phones. Update: Phones downloaded and posted. Yes, I need a new travel
laptop. I guess it’s time to quit
putting it off.
We don’t have a definite plan for today. We’ll do something, that’s for sure!

We skipped breakfast went to Hyannis Harbor to buy tickets for the High Speed ferry to Nantucket for Saturday morning. High speed version is one hour instead of 2.5 hrs.
Then we headed out to Chatham, a charming little town up the Cape. Diane had been watching a live webcam in front of The Tavern for the past couple of weeks. People watching as they parked on the street and went in and out of shops. We went to the lighthouse before breakfast/lunch at the Captains Table out on the patio. Not sure why I didn't take a picture of the lighthouse, but these are from the Sailor's Memorial.
The weather was beautiful. Then we wandered through some stores. By then it was a little after 12, 9 at home. She called Chey, her grandson who is working for her this week. He had been watching some of the webcam footage with her. He logged onto the live cam and we waived. It was pretty funny. He took a picture of the screen and sent it to her. Paul, Diane, and me standing on the street. Jay over by parked car. Spy cam!
We mowzied back to the resort and relaxed a while. Paul stayed in on his heating pad while we walked down to the beach for a while. Perfectly relaxing.
We ventured down to Falmouth (about an hour drive) for dinner at the Quarterdeck. We ate there last time we were there and it’s my favorite.
We walked up and down the block for a bit and then back to the restaurant for *Baked * Stuffed * Lobster*. AmAZinG! Diane and I both ordered the lobster, Paul had Cajun Blackened Halibut, Jay had Prime Rib.
Everything was delicious. Back to the resort and another moonlight
stroll on the beach.
In the meantime,
Paul decided it wasn’t a good idea for him to go to Nantucket with us. His back is still giving him a lot of trouble
and he thought the boat ride would be too much.
He said there was no point in me staying behind with him, he would just hang
out at the resort, eat his leftovers for breakfast, and relax. ;~(

We had planned on ordering some pancakes and bacon from the Keltic Kitchen and having Jay pick them up to eat in our room before we headed out to the harbor. Unfortunately they don’t do to-go orders. What’s up with that? I assume because their kitchen is so backed up that to-go orders would really clog the process. Who knows? Anyhow, we left a little early and stopped for a quick breakfast.
No refunds for the
ferry ticket so I found a nice lady and gave her Paul’s ticket. She was surprised and appreciated it.
The ride over to the
island was very nice and Nantucket was nothing like I remembered! I think when we went previously, we probably
were docked on the other side since we went out of a different harbor.
It was so beautiful there. Charismatic little town with shops on streets lined with trees and flowers. The weather was absolutely perfect.
I always have to hop on a scooter! |
Here's a pic of the dragonfly. They all have a saying on the back. I don't recall the one for the octopus. |
Jay went to the oyster bar and bought us Shrimp Cocktail to enjoy before the ferry took off. It was amazing! |
The ferry ride back was great. We sat outside on the upper deck at the back of the boat and it was a little hot waiting, but as soon as we took off, the cool ocean breeze was perfect.
Back to the resort. Paul has scoped out a place he wants to go for dinner tonight.
*****
Spanky’s Clam Shack in Hyannis. We had a few hours so we went down to Skipper
Chowder House and got a Quahog to go since it’s a local favorite. Must try the fresh and local.
(“KO-HOG”) A
native Cape Cod clam chopped and mixed with bread crumbs, linguica, bell
peppers and The Skipper’s own spices. Even if you can’t pronounce it, try it
Linguica is sausage.
We took it back to the resort and shared it on the picnic table outside our
cottage. It was delicious.
We walked to the office to print our boarding passes. First time I’ve been to a resort that didn’t have a computer and printer set up for that. They only had a printer. You have to email your boarding passes to their printer. Weird, but mission accomplished.
We headed out to Hyannis. Saturday night crowd. It was packed. We waited for a table outside on their patio which was very nice. In the meantime we wandered around the little huts with local vendors.
The sign said take a selfie here so you won’t forget the beautiful hydrangeas |
Back to the resort for our nightly stroll on the beach before bed.

Today is travel day. We need to be at the airport about 1:30 to return the car and shuttle to the airport to check our bags. Depending on what time we get out of South Yarmouth will depend on what we do along the way.
I’ll be back (hopefully tomorrow) to tell you about our day and hopefully be able to download my pictures and post more photos. I’m sure it’s an issue with my laptop, not my camera. Update: Yep, the laptop has taken it's last trip.
Final update for this trip! We left the resort and went to Plymouth so Diane and Jay could see the Plymouth Rock (or as I call it, the Plymouth Pebble). Then we had breakfast/lunch at Tavern on the Wharf and then drove up to Burial Hill to see the old cemetery.
Back on the road and to the airport. There was crazy busy traffic, but the directions were great for the first time ever in Boston!
*OH*AND* This happened:
